Making Your Work Matter
Academic culture promotes humility and bringing every receipt when you make a statement. By standing on the shoulders of giants, you become a bit small.
However, the world needs to know that you have value, and that you came to deliver a big impact. Although it’s uncomfortable for most, no one will know about you until you make yourself known. In section 3, we talked about how to find a network, but what are you going to tell them? What comes after the hello that makes people think of you first when there’s problems concerning your expertise?
You have to be present and participating in the world at large.
But how do you increase your professional visibility without feeling inauthentic? How do you build a reputation beyond citation counts? How do you ensure your expertise reaches the people who could benefit from it most?
This station focuses on strategic amplification- not empty self-promotion, but thoughtful positioning of your work and ideas. Bringing people ACTUAL value. We all know a few professionals who act as thought leaders, and that we respect and enjoy the work of. It’s time to become one of those thought leaders, even if only to a chosen few.
All of your success and dreams may be just on the other side of being a little cringe. But it’s only cringe until it works!
In this section, we’ll explore how to develop content that establishes your expertise, expands the reach of who listens to you, and demonstrates your value to people who can benefit from it.
