Know Thyself First
You've spent years becoming an expert in one domain. You've mastered complex methodologies, statistical analyses, and theoretical frameworks. But how well do you know yourself?
Most PhD programs train you to look outwardâat data, literature, and experimentsârarely inward at your own motivations and preferences.
What actually matters to you in your work? Is it autonomy? Human impact? Recognition? Social connection? Financial security? These aren't idle questionsâthey're the foundation of every career decision you'll make.
This station isn't about âwhat kind of cake are youâ tests or generic career advice. It's about building a clear-eyed assessment of what you need to thrive professionally. We'll work through exercises that reveal your non-negotiables, your genuine strengths (not just what you're competent at), and the environments where you do your best work.
By the end, you'll have a personal compass that helps you evaluate opportunities based on what truly matters to you, not just what seems impressive on paper or pleases your advisor. This section will set up and inform the rest of the work here.
